SJS-741DB Miki Gakki 200th Anniversary

Japan Forest Series - Crafted from Japanese Tone Woods -

A one-of-a-kind special model, imbued with a sacred resonance
— A limited edition guitar crafted using 200-year-old Kouyamaki (Japanese Umbrella Pine) and 200-year-old Keyaki (Japanese Zelkova)

Kouyamaki, a "living fossil," is the only existing species of the Kouyamaki genus native to Japan.
Known for its straight-growing leaves, this auspicious tree is cherished in Shingon Buddhism as a sacred offering and is also believed in Feng Shui to enhance fortune when planted in the south, west, or southwest. Classified as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, this extremely rare tree has been revered since ancient times as a holy tree.

We were extremely fortunate to obtain a limited amount of 200-year-old Kouyamaki and 200-year-old Keyaki wood. With this prized wood we wanted to craft a truly special instrument in celebration of the 200th birthday of Miki Gakki. With its bright, clean appearance and light, clear tone, Kouyamaki possesses not only visual beauty but also rich acoustic properties.
The Kouyamaki responds softly to delicate touches, while the Keyaki —known for its dense and heavy nature—produces rich low-end tones and crisp mids and highs. All resulting in a sound so pure it feels like it cleanses the soul each time it is played.
